Today’s article seems to be the logical evolution of one latest post, about the benefits of slow fashion in your life. I heard that, according to recent figures, women acquire around thirty kilos of textile each year. T-h-i-r-t-y. Gosh, does that includes bed linen and towels as well?! Even before my closet detox, I’ve never ever been to this point. It’s huge, and surely not necessary.
Especially with all the new possibilities around us — like clothing rental. It may reduces the volume in your wardrobe, and maximises the chances to wear unique items. Like for example this velvet coat by Chanel vintage!
The concept is easy. You can subscribe for one year or for one month, according to your budget. Some cleaning costs are also part of the contract. You’re free to pick up the items you wish, but of course you’ll have to bring them back within one or two months max.
Countdown is on: after three weeks in my wardrobe, the velvet coat will go back to Kleihd, a new clothing rental shop here in Zurich. ‘Live fashion, don’t own it’. I immediately liked the concept, the experiment itself. And surely the deep blue color and velvet material of the coat. I found out later that it was a vintage Chanel… So I felt lucky to wear it on a daily basis. With jeans and boots. Or just with layerings, like today.
Ah, the second item I rent is indeed this red custom made skirt. Really like it as well.

Unfortunately the climate didn’t allow me to wear these items as often as I’d have like, but this is seriously a super nice experience. Yes, I might regret this wonderful coat. But no, I won’t end up naked in few days – still have enough home!
How does it sound to you, did you already experience clothing rental, or is it something that you could try as well?
