Some designs are just engraved in memories, like this polka dots dress. I’ve always been a huge fan of Stella Mc Cartney, from her timid beginnings to today’s success story. To me she’s the frenchiest of all british designers, and inspired me some days ago for a new DIY idea for upcoming party times, featuring some french spirit…
Mix black jersey from a basic tee-shirt with polka dots tulle – and here is a light, shining top with a velvet bow.
Ph: David Zehnder
What you need:
-a basic tee-shirt,
-a velvet bow (from men accessories),
-1 m tulle with shining polka dots, 1 m border tape,
-thread, needles, scissors, tailor chalk and measuring tape.
Step 1: Draw the line just below the sleeves from one side to the other, and mark the middle of the tee. Keep the body part for later.
Cut the upper part of the tee like on the picture. You can however reduce the collar shape if you wish.
Step 2: Prepare the tulle yoke
Cut the shoulders hems and lay the full material on the tulle. Make sure that polka dots are placed in the middle of the tee-shirt.
Then fold the material (front and back of the tee) in two on the shoulder line. Maintain the two layers together and be ready to cut:
Cut the ‘sleeves’ in a straight way and along the collar’s half-circle.
Step 3: Stitch it
Now everything you have to do is stitching along the body part of the tee and tulle material together. Try the tee on before to make sure about the high of both materials as it shouldn’t be to low.
Begin on the front side, make the finishings and finally stitch the back. Remove the rests of materials.
Finish the top with sewing border tapes inside along the hems.
Try the tee on and define the width of the shoulders; cut the rests.
I hope you liked it, get inspired for the week! A bientôt.
